LCROSS Lunar Impact this Friday

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Come join us at Hardin Planetarium to be part of a very unique event. This Friday morning at approximately 6:30 am local time NASA's Lunar CRater Observing and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) will crash into a crater near the Moon's south pole followed shortly by its Centaur booster rocket. The spectacular double impact will be shown live on NASA TV and is hoped to provide concrete evidence of water on the moon.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy, Hardin Planetarium and the Hilltoppers Astronomy Club will host a Star Party starting at 5am Friday October 9th. There will be bagels and juice, talks by professional astronomers and more. Come and be a part of this unique event and watch NASA's video broadcast of the LCROSS spacecraft impacting the Moon live from the Hardin Planetarium. Adults and children welcome. Free. Please contact Dr Rachel Campbell rachel.campbell@wku.edu if you would like more information or go to NASA's LCROSS mission page
