Fall 2016 Workshop

Introduction to Physics Modeling Pedagogy

Fall 2012 Workshop

Go to http://astro.wku.edu/universe/ for details and online registration

Join us for a free half-day interactive professional development opportunity in conjunction with the KAPT/KAS meeting at Eastern Kentucky University, 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 20 October 2012.

The first 16 participants to register for this NSF-funded workshop will recevie a Vernier SensorDAQ interface and a custom-built Function Plane device which uses algebraic functions to position a laser pointer. Math Machine activities engage students in designing and testing mathematical functions that control engineering-style physical systems and display immediate dynamic results. Please bring your own Windows laptop computer on which you can install the control software.

Fall 2011 Workshop

half-day interactive professional development opportunity in conjunction with the KAPT/KAS meeting at Murray State University, Saturday 5 November 2011.

This two-part interactive workshop opportunity combines Making Magnetism Visible with a panel discussion on Benefits and Costs of Student Participation in State and National Science Competitions.
Making Magnetism Visible -- Magnetic Fields are a notoriously difficult concept for students to grasp. Waorkshop participants will interact with a series of illustrative, motivating demonstrations of magnetism in action. These demonstrations have been chosen to be relatively inexpensive and easy to integrate into all levels of science classrooms. A series of basic experiments and data analysis will be a part of this presentation along with brief overview of magnetic sources and strengths.
Benefits and Costs of Student Participation in State and National Science Competitions -- For a science teacher, preparing students to compete successfully in science competitions can provide some of the best memories, and the biggest headaches, of any activity that can be undertaken. A panel of teacher/mentors and event organizers will share their experiences and answer audience questions regarding science competitions involving rockets, robots, construction, calculation, solo excellence, and solid teamwork.

Spring 2011 Workshop -- Saturday 19 March 2011, Eastern Kentucky University

Fall 2009 Workshop -- 9:00 - 5:00 EDT, Saturday, August 22
Making the most of Mechanics, Forces, and Motion
held at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College

Making the most of Mechanics, Forces and Motion is a one-day hands-on workshop presenting inquiry-based activities and curriculum for motion and forces. The presenters are Karen and Scot Gill, award winning physics teachers in the Fayette County School District.

Spring 2009 Workshop -- Electrical Circuits

Electrical Circuits is a one-day hands-on workshop presenting inquiry-based activities and curriculum for electricity and magnetism. The presenter will be David Taylor, award winning physics teacher in the Fayette County School District.

Professional Development Workshops for Physics Teachers

The annual spring meeting will include physics workshops that can count as professional development for middle and high school science teachers. The KAPT vice-president for high schools, Mr. Kenny Lee of Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, will be organizing these workshop opportunities.
